The US Women’s Soccer Team filed a gender discrimination suit against the US Soccer Federation on Friday in district court in California. The filing alleges that the US Soccer Federation discriminated against the women’s team by offering less pay to the female players and poor treatment despite their achievements in winning the World Cup three times and their status as four-time Olympic champions. In 2016, the women’s soccer team initially filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission regarding the gender discrimination issues. The team, which is currently ranked number one in the world and will fight for another World Cup victory, seeks back pay and damages.
