Big Victory for Female Police Officer!

Updated: Feb 10

Estelle Hughes vs. The Township of Franklin

Docket No. GLO-L-418-4

This is a New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (NJLAD) case brought to the civil court in Gloucester County where Estelle Hughes, a female former police officer with Franklin Township Police Department, filed a complaint for gender/sexual orientation retaliation under the NJLAD. Hughes claimed that after she filed her original claim for sexual orientation and settled that case, she was further retaliated against by the police department by their refusal to recognize her seniority in job assignments, refusing to permit her to go to career advancement training, refusing to accommodate her after a work related automobile accident and ultimately forcing her retirement from the police department. Her second claim of retaliation against the Franklin Township Police Department was recently settled on January 27, 2016.
